Check your cable adjustments, and also the shift interrupt switch. If the shift interrupt switch isn't working, it won't come out of gear like you describe. Also be VERY certain of the shift rod adjustment. I don't have a book in front of me right now to tell you what it should be.

BS came over and we got to work on the motor! Thanks BS

Well the bad news is that the reverse is still not working!

Good News is we have found the problem, we think? the part you connect the cable to that turns the shift rod is worn. It has a round rod with one flat side pressed in, the hole has worn letting you move that piece almost a inch before it does anything.
The spare motor was not any better! So the thought is to see if we can have it tack welded till I find the name of the part and can order another??

Hopefully BS can find his friend tomorrow and get it welded, other wise we will get it done Monday.

I want a new motor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It shifts into all gears manually,. I was just looking it up on a site they get $75 for new. Its a Shift Lever AY

I have a spare lower unit that I was going to use if need be, but when we drained the unit it was filled with saltwater!
O well it was a spare after all.

Hope we can get it tomorrow?? we shall see what happens.

I want to try out MY New prop

That stainless linkage lever where the shift interupt switch mounts too . . . is very very loose. (like a abu garcia 5500 handle that's caught 5000 fluke). Lower Unit will engage forward and reverse when shifted manually up and down, so I know the lower is good. But that linkage piece is so loose that you can have forward and nuetral . .. or reverse and neutral (and sometimes only neutral) when shifted from the control cables end of the linkage.

MJ - You're gonna need a new motor :) Start saving $50 a fluke trip. You've got two great powerheads, but some shiat saltwater mids and lowers. If you can locate a freshwater mid/lower (or a pair of them) you're going to be all set for the next 10 years. I call you tomorrow morning. I wonder if those powerheads will bolt up to a 200/225 Ficht mid and lower.
