I hate Trophy!! I think they make them look good so they sell!! You can sell a dead dog if you package it right!!
I have two buddy's with them and they are ok, but have there issues (20' Cuddys) But as a family boat in flat water just curzing I say you be all right. Wellcraft much stronger boat, rides about the same and can be family with the right mod's. And still have a nice boat or the smaller area that you don't need the big boat. My Vote is the wellcraft, take some of the cash from the sale and make it family friendly. That said you will be fine with either one.

It is a good looking but but it is very light for a 22' boat. Once I get the motor redone I will probably sell the trophy. On my local craiglist a guy is asking 14K for a boat that is a year older. I once saw a V20 with a 70 horse motor on the back. I found a decent deal on a 05 Suzuki 90 4 stroke still under warrenty will that motor get the Wellcraft up on plane. Would I be able to get up to 30MPH. Any of your guys know where I can find a good running 4 stroke for decent money? 20" shaft Thanks |

Trying to sell a boat right now for a profit is almost impossible. Asking price is one thing, but what you don't see is the actual selling prices. Many people right now are listing there boats with as high of an asking price as they think they can without scaring off all of the buyers. Then the buyer feels better when they buy the boat for 60% of the asking price, when that is what the seller wanted in the first place. As for a TROPHY boat, go out and see which boats are rocking and rolling the worst on the bays. My bet will be that the lightweight TROPHY's will be rockin and rollin when the WELLCRAFTS are just wobblin a little. As for the rebuild on the 150, $3300 sounds about right for the job if he does a complete rebuild with new pistons and bearings and seals.
Many shops out there right now are just doing repairs and calling them a rebuild and then charging ungodly prices for said repairs. On the other hand, $3300 would buy you a nice used EFI engine right now. Or for a little more money you could buy a used 150 OPTIMAX, and then part out the current 150 on EBAY or CRAIGSLIST and recover some of the upgrade costs. I can tell you that I just rebuilt my 89 200HP EVINRUDE and it set me back close to $1500 in parts and boring and I did the work myself. I did use some upgraded non OEM parts(grahite coated pistons and BOYESEN reeds), but a basic rebuild will normally run close to $1500-$1800 in parts alone by the time you buy the parts, machine work, and incidentals. For $3300 I'm sure BS could get you a nice used engine, I believe he just got a late model 150 EFI he said in another post.

I honestly don't think it will be hard to get $10,000 for that boat running with a warrenty on the motor. I am in a different area it is almost recession proof. When the Navy ships pull in the guys come of the boat with money burning holes in there pockets. If I can present a good running newer boat at $4000 under retail it will sell in a couple of weeks. Worst come to worst I can always break even on it at 7K. |

The OPTI's did have some problems early on. Primarily the 2000-2001 200/225's earned the OPTIPOP reputation from what I have read. The smaller OPTI's are supposed to be much better, and many of them have been updated to the later standards. I've seen a few 04-06 OPTI's for sale in the $5K-$6K price range. 03+ is supposed to be the good ones for the OPTI's and said to be pretty reliable.
