shift linkage. sounds like it might not be engaged all the way hmm it only does it when you give it gas fast to back up
like if you let it idle or a little gas it seems to be ok

Thats exactly what mine was doing. Idle backwards fine, add a little gas and THUMP, THUMP. Sounds like the transome is comming off.

It just wasn't engaging all the way. Let me know if this fixes it.

turbinedoctor guess what thump thump thump GONE your right took it to the mech, and he adjusted the shift cable and now its gone phew that was easy you were right and guess what he didnt even charge me anglers marine in seabright nj the most honest and best i ever saw jimmy was the mechanic hes an older guy wouldnt even take a tip god bless him

I keep telling people, find a good dealer that treats you right( there are fewer and fewer out there everyday), and patronize them as often as you can. If they can't stay in business, they won't be there when you need them. More and more boat dealers and shops are trying to turn into car dealer attitude shops, that doesn't get it in the boat world, only ends up pi$$ing people off. I'm glad you found a good, fair shop to take care of your boat, you should consider yourself very furtunate to have one nearby.

there the best of course when they work on your boat they get the rate but when you get it back it will be fixed and they only fix what is broke thats from my experiance , but when he didnt even charge me man i couldnt believe it there good and honest anglers marine in seabright nj but the only work on mercurys yeah buddy you know i was happy to get that prob, fixed
