Well I don't know how patient you are but from personal experience you dont want to have anything to do with that tilt unit. Maybe try to find a cheap used one. I have a 99 johnson and have had to replace the little things and it was very very tedious and took me a couple of weeks. I couldnt get the plugs out to get into the unit. (and you can't heat much them either aluminum on aluminum will just become a distorted mess.) I was able to get one out using a small chisel and turning it backwards after drilling it. then the other one I had to completely drill out and retap the hole. That wouldn't have been a big deal if it was a standard size tap but it had to be ordered and cost $35 and it had to be filled too. Also the little things that I replaced on mine could only be obtained from the dealer and it cost me $50 for the two specialty screws i had to remove plus i had to get all the little parts and seals that i was replacing in the first place. By that time i could have found a used one. Maybe you would have better luck thats jut what happened to me.

Thanks for the info drj; I will certainly take that into account.

By the way, I think the Angler was sold tonight...

Obviously check the transom and deck, but also make certain to check the fuel tank in a HYDRA-SPORT. They came from the factory with aluminum, but were known to rot out and leak due to the way the fuel tank mounts in. 84 gallon was standard and it is a snug fit in there. They lay right down on the hull bottom and the drainige for the bilge runs right by it. They didn't put a tube under them to direct the water away from the tank. I don't know of a single older HYDRA with the origanal tank still in good shape. The boats them self are pretty solid though.

If you check out the things that THEFERMANATOR mentioned and fix the engine i think it will be a great boat. I really like the setup of the hydra sport.

I postponed viewing the Hydra till Thursday or Friday.

Turns out the Angler is still for sale. I may go look at it later today. I'm wondering if that engine has enough power for it? It's a 112 SPL...

I have a leak in mine also, I just got all the tires off today and will be doing all the berrins tomorrow and getting 4 new tires.

After that I will be moving on to the motor, will see what happens when I get there.

Guys, for those interested, here's the scoop:

I'm going to look at the Angler this afternoon. Guy is asking $7200 OBO. It's a 1997 with a 112 SPL Johnson. Do you think that motor is powerful enough? Has t-top and looks clean from the pics. If the boat checks out, what should I offer him? Here's the link:

Here's the 91 Hydra Sport 2000 Vector with the 91 Evinrude with bad tilt/trim pump. The upholstery on the combing pads and jumper seats is gone.

Lastly, here's a Jones Brothers boat in NC that I may consider after the weekend if it doesn't sell and I don't buy another boat before then...

All opinions are welcome! Thanks boys...
