I have to admit I'm not smart enough to provide any valuable answers but if a picture is worth a thousand words, here you go!  They guy is asking $2500 for the boat and trailer but it doesn't have a engine. We are communicating via E-mail at this point and haven't been able to get from him if the old engine in the boat or in piece or lost for ever and think that will have some bearing on my decision. He indicated that in needs a 3.0L for a 4.3L but not what was in it originally. Kamikaze

thats a SX type drive, it wasw an outgrowth from OMC SX drives that Volvo built for OMC after OMC figured out they could't build a decent drive if their life depended on it. The Volvo drive in that boat is a good drive, and as we all know, Wellcraft makes a good boat, but realisticaly, by the time you bought an engine, and had soem one swap it out, you're going to end up with a lot more than its worth. It might be different if you were able to do a majority of the labor, or if you allready had an engine, but for $2500 with a bad motor, that sounds a little high, but a lot depends on what motor is in there

Understand, the big question is the motor (apparently it had a 3.0L previously) and if I could replace with a used 3.0L merc ( $600.00)and do the labor myself it would be a reasonable family runabout for 3200 and and ten year old boat. However, the seller is being very evasive on pictures of the interior so I suspect it is completely trashed which will kill the deal for me. Thanks for the info. Kamikaze
