The Mariners are a little easier to change than OMC products because (depending on the years) you don't have to loosen the linkage bolt under the carbs.
Whatever you do don't rotate the shift dog (or gear) and get it out of time. If you don't have a book get one just for tech data. Frosen bolts are always fun. Merc-Mariner has a change in '94 on the water pickup tube pay close attention to the instructions with the pump.
