 water pump/lower unit

Since I bought the boat last Auguat, I have not changed the water pump. I took her out last week and she ran perfect! even wit the old plugs full of carb fogging crap.
The water preasure comming out of her isn't to strong, and I know I need to atleast change/look @ the impeller. My question is, how big a project is it? I charge alot of things head on, and I get lucky about 80% of the time, but I dont want to roll the dice with my engine if it is going to be a bigger project/risk then I think. Thanks for any incorregement or warnings you may have! |

You can do it, its a easy job!! Just make sure you get the hidden bolt out under the zinc plate and that the inpeller goes on the right way.
If you don't have a book on your motor I sugest you to go get one. It will be full of info! |

I can't remember what motor you have, but if it's OMC, then don't forget about the bolt under the bottom carb; I had a really tough time getting to that one...

LOL, I/O on the brain. I think it's an OB BGA.

Yeah, under the carb... In order to get to the impeller, you need to pull the lower unit off and to pull the lower unit off you need to disengage the shift rod on an OB.
Am I out to lunch again? That happens sometimes... :-/ |

 Re: water pump/lower unit

The Mariners are a little easier to change than OMC products because (depending on the years) you don't have to loosen the linkage bolt under the carbs.
Whatever you do don't rotate the shift dog (or gear) and get it out of time. If you don't have a book get one just for tech data. Frosen bolts are always fun. Merc-Mariner has a change in '94 on the water pickup tube pay close attention to the instructions with the pump. Holler when starting on it. ;D |

Personally I'd buy the whole pump kit being it's the first time you've been in the foot, some improvements may have been made prior to '96. Oh, while your at it change the foot fluid. Get the pump and use Quicksilver fluid.

Look in "General" (today on page 2) and under "make my life easier" on page 2 pics of a 75hp Mariner foot. I suggest making one of these brackets.
