The shipping company Sealand had 8 of these built in the early 70's. Didn't take them too long before they realized they were too expensive to run due to fuel consumption.
They sold them to the US government and MSC (Military Sealift Command) converted them to what you see above. One of them actually still holds the Trans Pacific speed record! Averaged over 33kts from Yokahama to the West coast of the US, just over 6 days!
