Actually, bay scallops are native to the east coast but they got wiped out in the 50's. They are still around on Long Island and in NJ wherever there is eel grass they could be around.
I see the shells all the time on beaches.
The sea scallops are out in 200 ft or more (50 miles). See the boats working the Glory Hole & Chicken canyon. Bluefins will follow the boats when they are shucking. Quite a few boats work out of Point Pleasant

It's still a different type of bay scallop. Ours are very tiny compared to what you guys have on the other coast. Ours aren't much bigger than a perky pointer on a woman.
