Sweet.

That turtle grass reminds me of uncut St Augustine.

thanks guys, got a few reports this year, looking pretty slim. it's a blast, started doing it 20 years ago with the kids. used to get a limit almost every time we went, now lucky to get enough to make a meal. still a lot of fun

The Pasco Hernando county line is the southern boundry. They go as far down as Tampa Bay, but it is closed from the line south to allow for breeding teritory to the south to sustain the northern Gulf. As far south as I have heard of them beeing seen was Bradenton Sarasota area, but they say it was more or less a fluke. Been a few seen around Clearwater in recent years, but not many. They really prefer the shallow grass flats that the big bend region has MUCH of.

Different type of scallop. The ones over in the Atlantic are sea scallops, and MUCh larger than the tiny Gulf scallops we have over here.

No, they have bay scallops on the island. They have commercial & residential seasons but I think you have to be a resident of the island.

My wife has a friend there, I've stayed there a couple times. Like another planet...would love to take the V20 there for a week!

Actually, bay scallops are native to the east coast but they got wiped out in the 50's. They are still around on Long Island and in NJ wherever there is eel grass they could be around.
I see the shells all the time on beaches.

The sea scallops are out in 200 ft or more (50 miles). See the boats working the Glory Hole & Chicken canyon. Bluefins will follow the boats when they are shucking. Quite a few boats work out of Point Pleasant
