is the outdrive an alpha One? My boat is in Long Island NY. Did you rebuld the motors? How much is the motor and one of the outdrives worth. How many hours on the motors and outdrives. D you have any pictures?

I have no idea if its a alpha drive or not. One of the outdrives was rebuilt and probably does not have more than 40 hrs on it. The other outdrive is still mounted on a boat w/o a motor and I have no idea of its condition. The motor is used and I don't know how many hrs are on it. I am in Texas close to Houston thats probably to far for you. The motor was running when I removed it to put a outboard on it.

My 165 came from a rebuild outfit in South Carolina. It was 1800.oo. I'll try and find the location info. My wrench found it surfing the net. It came with a one year warranty and so far runs great.

Jaspar has them available. They bolt up to the old type 1 outdrives helmet heads. If your going to put a rebuilt engine in go to a 290 block same externally as a 250 but much better performance. Put a jaspar engine in my 76 v 20 runs well
One problem the intake manafold for the straight 6 is very expensive. Osco makes one but its around 6oo dollars

the 250 is the 165 hp engine, mercruiser used the 292 in front of the tr outdrive(rated at 200 hp) and transmission for use in comercial applications, I've seen several change overs from the 250 to the 292 in front of later style Alpha drives with no probelm from the increased torque. It will require modifiing the exhaust hose from the riser to the pipe, and may require modifying the engine box as teh 292 is taller. Most people go ahead and swap out the carb to a four barrel( most intakes are allready made for this). Replacement manifolds are availble from Barr, Osco, GLM, and a couple others. Yes they are expensive, but with the inline, you only have to buy one, with a V engine, you have to buy two.
