Default Sunglasses

For all you non perscription glass wearers, what type or make of sunglasses do you wear when fishing or just boating?

What features do they have and why do you like them?

I love Costa Del Mar. I wear them all the time, boating or not. I have the blue glass lens Fathoms. The blue and green glass lens are the best durability by far and are stratch PROOF. Here is a little story.

Once a few summers ago I was bent over pulling a few weeds out of a flower bed. I had my glasses pulled up and resting on top of my head. I did not realize how close I was to the wall (more specifically) the steel downspout of the house. I went to stand up and hit my head/glasses on the downspout. I am also not talking about a little bump here guys, I REALLY hit it hard! I hit it so hard in fact that it mashed the glasses against my head and hurt my head through the glasses. I was bent over in pain and in my furry threw the glasses across the yard. The real reason I threw them was that I really did not want to see the frame and lens of my almost brand new 150.00 Fathoms. I was sick!!!

Upon regaining my composure I walked over to them and picked them up. The left lens had a ¼” X 1” white gash across the lens and the frame was scared as well. I immediately threw them in my truck and finished the customer’s yard. The whole ride home I glanced over at my freshly RUINED glasses only occasionally. I was sick and I felt like an idiot.

I got home and decided, just for giggles I would try to clean them off. Yeah right!! Like that was gonna work. So…I grabbed a cloth and started reluctantly buffing my nice blue mirror lens. For a brief moment I looked away and slipped off into a dream of freshly cleaned and NOT scared Costa Del Mars. I slipped out of this trans only to look and what did my eyes beyond, but a sleigh with eight tiny…..sorry wrong story….anyways, I looked down at my glasses I seen NO white mark and furthermore NO scratch whatsoever!!!! I then ran into the bedroom and screamed about my newfound happiness to my very plump and somewhat uncaring pregnant wife. I then showed her the situation and she said I can easily clean that frame with some Comet. I gave them to her without much in the way of expectations. She made off with them and after a few minutes to my surprise returned them to me good as new!!!

I am still totally shocked that after a blow that hard (bump on my head to prove it) these glasses not only weren’t ruined, but are as good as brand new.

Also, if you do manage to hurt them Costa will replace them free. All I have to do though is take mine back to where I bought them. They stand by Costas as well as the factory.

I guess it depends on how you are with sunglasses in general. I spend a lot of time outside, on the water and off, so I try to protect my eyes. Don't always do it, but I do try.

Anyway, if you aren't the type to lose them, Costa's really can't be beat. They are god awfull expensive, but I have one pair thats 19 years old, and another thats 10 years old. They are both fine. I'll probably buy another pair this year, just because its time.

Now, my wife tells at me for buying $200 sunglasses, but only until I remind her that she buys $300 worth of $10 shades every year. She must buy disposables or something ;D

Agreed Air, I wouldnt let my wife buy a pair of glasses for more than 5 bucks because they dont last 5 minutes!

True story...her current cell phone ....3 months old BTW....has been dropped in the toilet once and ran over by two cars....STILL WORKS TO!! ;D

She will only own Moto RAZRs from now on...its all that holds up to her. ::)

I'm with ya HAMMER, and I wear the rope retainer.

I have lost and destroyed more good pair of them to count,
so at $7 it is not a tragedy when you see them destroyed.

If you watch em close, you can get em on sale for $5 @ Wally world.

The ones I get are polarized and seem to work very well for cutting the glare on the water. I keep at least 5 pairs.

1 pair in each, my van, my truck, my work car, my wife's car, and the boat. That way I don't ever forget em.
