You should be able to put a bracket there. The base on the brackets are only about 4 inches wide by like maybe 6 inches tall. Thru-bolt it on with a backing plate on the inside and seal everything up real good with some 5200.

I'd recommend 9.9 or a 15hp with a 20" shaft. The shortshaft 15" may work but I think it would come out of the water with the roll of the waves.

I have a 9.9 and it is plenty motor for me. Don't know about other models but the Johnson 9.9 and 15 are (were) the same size. I think there's a carb difference and some other things that make one 15 as oppposed to 9.9. I believe it weighs around 70 pounds, but not sure about that. It pushes the boat up to around 7 or 8 mph.

The motor I have came with the boat. The guy bought the motor on eBay. He paid $400 and some dollars for it and it runs really good.
