| Spade Fish

I took my son, brother in law and my niece's boy friend to the CBBT to look for Spade Fish and Flounder. The 10 Spade fish that we caught were small but still fun to catch. The bite at the bridge was slow so I decided to go to the Anglo African wreck. We cauhgt a few more Spades there along with 3 Togs. I could only keep 1 of the Togs due to them being 1/2" short. Never did get a Flounder. Joewith a Spade at the CBBT Rob with the first fish Bloody V Heading for the wreck, I was letting Rob who is in the Navy and getting ready to deploy, drive.

Small peices of clam on a #1 hook is the only bait to use as far as I know. Also don't use a stiff rod and have your drag set so they can run a little. I have seen them break hooks before. There were larger Spades on the Anglo African but they would not bite a hook. The guy in the boat next to us was free diving and was spearing some impressive Spades.

Cool, I have heard of using "jelly balls", which I assume are the tiny jellyfish I catch in the throw net sometimes in the ICW. I don't know how to handle them though, don't want to get stung.

RB - the jellyballs they use are the ones you see free floating in abundance out in the ocean sometimes. The ones with very short tennacles and about the size of a softball. Just cut off small pieces. They don't sting, or so I hear. Never used them myself. Spades like fresh shrimp just fine but are experts at removing it from the hook without getting hooked. I caught a nice spade once on a small piece of cut menhaden (didn't have any shrimp). They were feeding on the surface on small jellyfish. An impressive site to see a huge school of 5 lb spades moving under the boat! Then my little ultra lite tackle rod went off! Very sporty indeed!

Looks like you were at the 4th island. We pulled in a few this past weekend there but like yours they where kind of small. In you last pic it looks like the guy in the yellow shirt is driving the boat from the engine.
