well if you are getting a installed pump then thats the price difference.
But if he is charging you $150 just for the pump then forget it!! They are not hard to change, I am doing a Yamaha as we speak! Start to finish about 30min, if your first time 1 hour you all set to go!

Good job Hammer! I remember the day I lost my V20 virginity 8)
I agree with MJ. Also, I wouldn't replace the housing unless it looked like it needed it. Only the impeller. A few of us on here could probably walk you through the process. I don't know how the shift linkage is on Mercury (you probably have to disconnect it somehow), but other than that its just a matter of taking out bolts and dropping the lower unit off so you can slip the new impeller into place. Then you just put it back on. I'd say 100 bucks sounds more reasonable considering alot of those places charge 70 bucks an hour. Add in the 30 bucks for parts and 1 hour labor - I wouldn't pay over $100 for that job. Tell them you don't want the housing replaced unless it is scored and/or heavily worn. ;)

Hey Blue, thats what the repair guy said the first time, said the pump didnt looked scorned or needed replacing, just the impeller.

Yiou don't have to disconnect any linkage on the Mercs. Just 5 nuts and the bolt under the torgue tab and she slides right off. This first time I'd do the housing just so you know, If it ever ran dry it can distort the housing slightly. Might not see it with naked eye but might not perform as new. After all this work I know you ain't gonna slide for a difference of $30 or so for the heart of your engines cooling supply.

The site I sent you has the housing and all for $30 something plus shipping.
You have done all the hard work, you can handle a job this easy no sweet!! Might as well learn!! I hate having to rely on the crooks at the mariners!

Shift linkage is IMO the hardest part on a Johnnyrude, so this Mercury sounds like a piece of cake! Do it do it do it!!!
