Default repowering 150 Yamaha OX 66

I'm looking at a 2001 Yamaha 150 OX 66. Presently there is a 1987 200 Merc Black Max on the boat. The mechanic is telling me the Merc is tired and firing on just 5 of the 6 cyl. Anybody out there got one of these Yamahas and are you happy with it.

don't have one but those were the best motors Yamaha ever built. you can't go wrong. How many hours does it have? those are good for around 2500 hours with no problems.

I just replaced my 1994 Yamaha 150 with a 2004 . It was a great motor . I only had minor problems with it over the years . I don't think that you will go wrong.

Yo DI, sounds like a smart move. I got a 2004 like Labii and I'm in love :-) Ironically, it replaced a 1994 Yamaha 150hp too!

My mechanic tells me the hours are low and he'll warranty for 90 days. He wants $4500 for the motor and $650 for rigging an installation. Is that about right? Did you notice a signifcant saving in fuel from carbs to injected and lastly how about performance. Thanks in advance

I have a 2005 F150 4 stroke yamaha and my dishwasher makes more noise than my outboard, and my dishwasher is quiet! It does great on gas, I only fill up once every 5 or 6 trips. I know that dosn't give a lot of info on fuel mileage, but I clock a bunch of miles every trip.

No experience with the model, but NADA guides says motor is around $5300-6300. Sounds like a fair deal. Rigging price is pretty good, too. Usually that's $1000-1500 for parts and labor, around here anyway.

I have several friends that run the Ox66 series and having fished with them, they're great motors with very few problems.

MY older friend here an old salt says the best motors made are the two stroke Yammies, most durable and reliable and that ox66 is supposed to be their best. I've had two mercs a force evinrude suzuki and now I got the the 99 115 johnson which seems like a sweet motor. If I was going to buy a motor new it would be a Yamaha 2 or 4 stroke, just too many people I know with them and not once have one of them done anything but praise them

Plus the Grand Puhbah, who could have any motor he wants went with a Yammie, I was on that boat and that motor is sweet. So that settles it for me
