If so, I'd like to know what horsepower, how you like the setup, and whether you can plane using just one of the engines.

I thought there was someone that posted here that had recently purchased a V20 with twins. I might be delerious from the cold weather and cabin fever setting in though.
Might be able to set up some of the older models such as yours but I don't think there's enough of a transom cutout in the newer models for the correct spacing. I've never seen or heard of a newer model with twins anyways. I would think you'd want minimally twin 90's for good performance and to possibly plane with just one motor. I'm a little curious as to why you may be entertaining the idea. Generally speaking, two 90 hp motors won't give the performance of a good single 175 hp will. In smaller boats with twin engines, they typically can't be spaced far enough apart to give you the positive handling effects of say twin inboards on larger vessels. The one positive that I could think of is redundancy. If one motor were to crap out offshore, and the one good motor will get the boat up on plane, it should make for a faster safer ride home vs. the kicker motor scenario. This is all what I've been told by a very competent boat builder and repairman when I was considering buying a boat with twin engines some time ago. Maybe someone here can shed better light on experiences they've had with actual applications.

Chumbucket:
Looking through the 1975 catalog is what triggered my question. Wellcraft specified max horsepower for the Steplift as twin 115's, but I've never seen any models rigged with twins. |

Yeah, other than printed material, I've never seen one rigged with twins either. I thought that you were possibly thinking of repowering with twins.

*I have seen them with twin 70's and 85's . That was back in the 1970's . I *think that OMC came out with the V-6 200hp in about 1975-76 and that about did away with the twin set up . Chumbucket with 501 *****!!!!
