Well........... I'm thinking ahead just in case the motor deal I'm working on works out........
At that point, I might want to move the battery and therefore its weight forward. Do I have your permission ? . . U ha ha |

move it where it fits, use good wire! #4 would be a minimum, #2 is better, especially if you are running it over 10 ft. If you've got a motor that has a computer on it, #2 would be the minimum with 0 being better. if you are running a battery switch. make sure its up to the task, read the amp rating on it, I've seen really good battery installations negated by using a cheap battery switch. Speaking of batteries, don't cheap out here either, if you have an engine with a computer on it, figure 1000 MCA the absolute minimum, 850 MCA for carb motors

On my 21 there was a floor hatch just inside the cuddy that actually went back under the floor deck...my electric trolling motor required two large deep cycle batteries and under there is where I put them...I also used that hatch for a fish box which required me to some what isolate the batteries from fish/ice. Of course the batteries were in secured boxes, but I also made a slide for both boxes which allowed easy access for battery maint and locked in place for running...sounds complicated, but I wanted them low center of gravity and out of general storage...that area will also provide SHORTEST route to your motor for wires...I agree w/Spare re wire sizes, etc...

Relocating my batteries towards the bow. By the time it goes from the bottom of the hull up into the console and back to the engine its close to 20'. Sent an e-mail to Bombardier and asked what size was recommended for a 200 Ocean Pro. Response was 1/0 FWIW. I've seen 4-stroke 150 Yamaha at 4 AWG if your battery has at least 512 CCA.
Where I bought mine http://stores.ebay.com/Genuinedealz/...?_fsub=5284430

I have 2 Marine Grade 850CCA wired to a Perko SW on a Carb motor, both mounted up against wall, which I can only describe as the the Cuddy Door wall, below deck?

I cut a hatch in the deck where Reel is talking about just in front of the cuddy entrance. Phatdaddy did this and is the one I got the idea from. I ran 1 gauge cables through a rigging notch in the starboard stringer and up to the rigging rings inside the starboard gunnel to a large terminal block on the inside transom. I decided to go with two 1000 MCA Interstate Mega-tron cranking batteries instead of the Blue Seas combiner/automatic charge relay with the deep cell house and seperate cranking battery. I hardly run any electronics and liked the idea of less wiring/crap to go wrong. The two 1000 MCA cranking batteries idea I got from one of Spare's posts that got me thinking K.I.S.S.
If anyone is interested in the Blue Seas System I'll sell it for less than what it cost me. Never really used it, just hooked it up and then changed my mind. It is a high quality item. Members "Fishing with Blue" and "Whatknot" both run them and "Whatknot has a detailed wiring diagram posted on here if you do a search. Also have a BRAND NEW group 24 Interstate deep cell if interested.
