I read about a 2.5 liter Merc that produced approx. 280 prop horsepower.

2 stroke, not heavy but LOUD....built for racing.

So..............on a V ? I'll say ......... 60 mph would be possible.
Based on each 50 hp pushing about 8-10 mph faster.

I suppose anything is possible, given enough money and time, but is it really necessary, and can you do it safely? These hulls were never built for that kind of torture. Plowing thru a wave at 35 is a hell of a lot different than smashing thru that same wave at 60. I'm satisfied with my 200 moving me along nicely.

I would say no problem with a slick bottom.

My 200 Merc is making a little over 200HP, no bottom paint, fastest I have seen on GPS is 53 mph. So 280 HP out of same motor, hell yeah!

Old Skool carbed Black Max 2.4 200......I have a great friend who races outboards and loves these things. He did a rebuild on it for me....he wanted to get crazy, but I had a budget to stick to.

I REALLY wish it was the 3.0 250 block!!

Now THAT'S a sleeper vehicle !

V 20 top speed performance thread is for fun.....

The fastest V was the guy who posted video with the inboard - approx 70 mph top speed.

Would have liked to seen more of it, and use of tabs to eliminate the porposing so it runs flat.

Inboard power is really the best way to create the ultimate " sleeper V boat " .
Transom can only handle X size outboard, and inboard weight further forward balances better.
