Default New 150

With respect and honors, my Sea Drive is moving on. I bought a new '04 Johnson 150 today and an armstrong bracket w/30" setback. I'm dropping the boat off next weekend to have the Sea Drive removed and to begin the prep work for the new power. Now I'm even more excited for the '05 season. May this Johnson last as long as the Great Sea Drive. Now I've got a 23' boat!

150 Johnny should be carbed, right? Should be a good motor for that boat. How much for the bracket? Thats what I'm intrested in.

I have a stainless marine one with full platform. Weight is 150# and the cost $1600
But they have them with out platform for like $800

But there is also some Armstrongs and others. Look around and price them!!

The 150 is carbed, I couldn't justify the extra $$$ for a DI or 4-stroke on a repowered hull worth less than 1/2 of even the carbed motor (paid $7100 for the Johnson) and more like 1/3 the value of an ETec or 4-stroke. Sales people actually advised me against the 4-stroke based on weight, but I wasn't too worried about that. The armstrong bracket is about $1100 and it has flotation, which I like. I may have to pay a little more for the bracket to get it color matched to my hull, which I will do if possible. I may finally get the boat fully up on a plane now! I'll tell you what the speed is when I get out there with my GPS.

CT-

Congrats!!! Now I am definitely the slowest boat on the forum!
How long should the conversion take?

Did you get the bracket with the swim platform?

You know that you have to take before and after pics with maybe a few progress pics thrown in!!

filleyt 1 These guys are killing us. I'm a slow 23 to 26 M.P.H at 5400 RPM, gas mileage is out the window. Some day I'm going to get a different motor and double my speed and lower my RPMS. Crusher :'(

Thanks. I did not get the platforms (yet), but they are only *:-X like $500-600 more. I can always add them. So long as the bracket gets here before the spring rush, I should have my boat back early in April I should think. It really all depends now on Armstrong shipping a bracket out. Since the fiberglass guy is going to be working on the boat anyway, I'm going to have an old through-hull transducer removed (nothing hooked up to it anymore) and maybe have another thru hull added to faciliate a raw water washdown setup. I'll have to see how the budget looks before I go crazy. Because the motor will be farther back than the sea drive, I'm going to need all new steering and control cables as well. I was kinda hoping the motor would be the graphite model, but it's white instead. I'm fine with that too, but I think the graphite would have looked cooler. Oh well, function over form and I'm really happy with price. A carbed Yamaha 150 is $9k around here. And RA, I'm WAY too cheap to go for a 4-stroke, especially as understanding my wife was about the new motor (she likes the boat too, nothing like a nice cool ride in the sea breeze on a hot August afternoon).
