My friend said he wanted to go Flounder fishing in the spring, in Chesapeake Bay.
The Flounders here are very hard to find, almost gone. ![]() Is this a good idea, how is the Flounder fishing there? ![]() Wishing everyone a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR !

Winter Flounder are actually quite plentiful here in Jersey and from what I hear on the New York side.
The problem here is that the Numbskulls in charge have set the flounder season purposely after the largest and largest numbers have moved out of their winter habitat. River fishing here for them is OK, with an occasional decent keeper. Most are shorts due to what was said above. I f you fish just outside the rivers on any structure or drop offs you have a better chance at larger fish but less numbers as they are spread out and moving every day further and further out to their summer grounds off shore. Never fished the Chessy for flounder someone else needs to chime in on that Just so you know several people who live along the rivers fish for them before the season opens, what used to be traditional winter flounder season and they score some really nice fish. They take their chances, because as the Traveling Wilbury song says," In Jersey anything is legal as long as you don't get caught "

My boat is in Staten Island and believe me when I tell you the Flounders are hard to come by. I usually do well in Raritan Bay, but that has slowed down.My question is not about local fishing, my friend wants to know how it is else where. Thanks G

No, I am talking about flounder, which are called Winter Flounder.
Fluke are a species that are generally much larger, more aggressive and do just the opposite of their cousins. They come into shallower water from deep offshore during the warmer months.

Hey Giorgio, are you still in the water? Where do you keep your boat? All of the die hard fishermen I know are out for the season already so I haven't gotten any reports. I myself am out also. Just want to add this: follow the party boats. They always seem to know the best spots.

we used to anchor over a mussle bed and catch 'em up one after another. we would cull them out and bring home a dozen each. this was at least 20-30 years ago.
these days you cant even catch your limit.

If your talking about the CBBT area of the Chesapeake Bay then you really need to wait until May when the water is warmer. In Va. the size limit is 19 1/2 inches so it tougher to catch keeper flounder but they get much larger. I only made it to the CBBT 2 times this year and both times we did really good catching 4 to 5 keepers each time and I caught my best ever at 24 inches.

Cam, No, I am out of the water too.
![]() Everyone, I am talking about WINTER FLOUNDER, not Fluke (summer flounder). I have some friends who would like to do a fishing trip, I just don't understand all these responses. All I am asking is, if they do any Winter Flounder fishing in the Chesapeake, not in NJ, L.I. or Staten Island. HAVE A HAPPY HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!

Hey Giorgio, I love the fish, love the shirt (look closely--very funny) and I really like your "shorty" enclosure which just encloses the helm area.
