Well to make a long story short, I had all sorts of fuel water issues last season, so I replaced the tank, vent, hoses, etc. My question is regarding the Racor filter. Should there always be gas in the see-through bowl? It is always full but I empty it and it seems to be just gas. Seems like a silly question, but any help appreciated.

the bowl will always have gas in it, unless you run out. any water will go there first, if you keep on pumping water, the bowl will fill up and get into the filter.

Great question and from the sound of it you've licked your problem. I'm not having so much of a water problem as a trash in the fuel problem. It is probably just a matter of time before I have to do as you did.
Did you do the work or have someone do it for you? I have a poly tank, so hopefully I won't have to replace it. What kind of tank did you have?

It was a simple tank replacement. No foam-in, just lifted the floor, unscrewed the straps and removed. The only thing I did not replace was the 1.5 in fill. I could not get the old one out, but it says A2 on it, so I should be ok.

It is the USCG approved rating for fuel lines. The fill hose has to be rated A2 and the feed hose A1.
