Default Key Largo Boats????????????????????

A good friend of mine is thinking about buying a boat for his Florida home that is on a canal. It will be on a lift. He would probably pull it once in a while and drop it in the intercoastal.

He said he found a 2006 Key Largo 17'6" with a 90 hp Yama (two stroke), with very little hours on it, trailer included, for $12,000.

I know nothing about these hulls...what do you guys think??? Price, quality/problems??

I see quite a few around here..they seem to do fine in the rivers and bay and on nice weather days. Ive never riden one but see plenty of them.

In FL I think it would be fine...not like he will be in too much bad weather if he picks his days (which we all do anyways)

KEY LARGO hjas gotten quite the following down here because of there price. A friend of mine has a 21 footer and he LOVES it. Of the ones I have seen they are actually built not to bad. Just remember they are NOT a PATHFINDER or something, hence why the price is right on em. And like mentioned, they are not open water boats, but for there purpose they are good.

Like ferm said, they aren't poorly built boats, just not real staute. Their 20 footers weigh no-where close to what a v weighs....about 2/3rds. So, they're not bad, but not great.

Thanks for the input guys I will let him know. Sounds like it will work for what he needs and with a two stroke Yamaha he shouldn't have any motor issues.

it a basically "you get what you pay for" boat. though i would buy a key largo over a fishmaster anyday. does that boat your friend is looking at have an abnoxiously large beam. the boat i was in did. it was very impressive on that size boat. that beam should make up for some of its other flaws. everything is a trade off.

That's a good motor but overall the price is a lil' high. Bud'mone jus nought a 17 Makp with 115 'rude for 5K. Shop around some more.
