Default Yet another tow vehicle question

I'm looking for a used truck to tow the V. My Ranger is severely under gunned for the task. Is an F150 or Dodge 1500 enough or do I need to kick it up to the F250/2500 group?

I'm figuring ~ 5000 pounds for the V + fiberglass camper shell + SCUBA gear + camping stuff.

Pretty much any 1/2 ton series should have no problem towing a V-20. My CHEROKEE did ok up till 65, and it isn't even a 1/4 ton capacity.

I have no problem with my Dodge Dakota (5.2L V8 version).....initial tow was from New Jersey to Connecticut but since then it is to the marina in the spring and home in the fall.....a very short drive. I do have a long steep driveway and she comes up fine. Towing capacity is around 6500 lbs. Any V8 SUV or truck should have enough towing capacity for the V-20 I think.

definately a 1/2 is enough i use a halfton for my dad's v23 and its perfectly fine. i had a dodge 2001 1500 ram 2wd and it pulled the 23v well. it also had the 5.2 v-8. i noticed to left chevy out of the pic is that b/c of trans problems. if so, the dodge trans wasnt the best either.

Go Chevy!! a 1500 will do it like a dream! I use my 1500 (with 2500 springs) to tow my V and now my 23 Sea Ox no problem, I even tow my 30' Holiday Rambler Camper!

And thats Cause my truck has balls!!!!!!!!

Oh, as for trucks, I have a 2500HD as well as a 98 K 1500 1/2 ton. IT's more fun in the HD, but the 1500 does just fine.

Thanks Air.

MJ's greatest fear? It's a toss up between speed bumps and hitting a porcupine.
