Default Salmon... From start to finish

First Salmon trip out of Northern CA today. (My buddy's boat, not the V). We fought the fur bags... ummm I mean the sealions for much of the day. Anyway, the pictures'll tell the tale.

Small silver salmon that would have been released... well I released what was left of him after the fur bag grabbed him on the way in. "Swim", I said to him, "It's just a flesh wound."

The one small 27" king salmon I kept for the day.

Fresh salmon steaks in my secret marinade.

Grilled FRESH salmon with alder smoke. Absolutely one of the best things around.

A guys boat is his baby. Not my choice of boats but the 19'er runs well and handles fairly rough condition without problems. NOT a dry ride in chop.

Man that looks like some good eats.....my mouth is watering.

Do you ever hook the sea lions? I bet they would put up a good fight.

CTT,
I am smiling. Although at just that moment I was thinking "Gosh, I wish I hadn't had that second chorizo burrito for breakfast..."

About the lunatic thing... very observant. Most people don't get that until the meet me in person. (It's the drooling I think).

About the fur bags... Truth is that I only dislike the sealions when they steal my salmon. The first picture was the second fish of the day. The first was pretty cool... another silver salmon, maybe 4-5 pounds came to the boat. I released it without lifting it out of the water and it swam away strongly. Seconds later a bull sealion, maybe 400 pounds or so errupted from the water 10-15' away from the boat with the salmon in it's mouth and blood spilling into the water. Bummer for the fish but very cool to see.
