Default Evinrude 150/200 tilt problem

A good friend just bought V6 Evinrude 150 with 200carbs. It lowers and trims down. But will not trim or tilt up. The electric trim motor does run. If we pull up the motor the trim rods will extend but will not push the motor. Its got fluid. What are we missing?

Sounds like a short in the wire to the up switch or a bad switch

you said the motor does run when trimming up? Sounds like an internal oring gone bad, Make sure you have it full of fluid, you need to check it with the motor in the full up position, fill with a squirt can of light oil. If you know its full and wont trim up, there's an o-ring behind the large flat screw on the lower part of the trim system, there's one for up and one for down. One of those screws is on the rear facing side of the trim unit, the other one is on the transom side(you have to remove the engine or trim system). i can't remember which one is which

Agreed could be lack of oil or system needs bleeding, try to assist it by physically lifting the the engine whilst someone trims it up to see if its just stuck valve etc .

Remove and clean the manual release valve, check for contamination of the oil, fill her back up to filler hole and test.

I do not believe its electrical. We are hooking the trim motor wires straight to the battery right now because there is no black solenoid box. He just got one and I will be installing it tomorrow. He did say the previous owner replaced the trim motor. Could it be a problem with the installation? Spare I will check for the o rings. The trim motor sounds strong and will let the motor down just not push it up. I have tried to assist it with no avail.

This engine is a 200649S. Its supposed to have a single solenoid. Will it hurt to wire. It like the 80s with relays?
