Default New Bench Seat

Whipped this new seat out this weekend. Started with 2- 2'x4'x3/4" pieces of ply (not sure what type, I went with the nicest lowes had), two hinges from West Marine, little starboard and an old bench seat cushion I had picked up a couple of years ago. The two pieces of plywood were stained with olympia's outdoor waterproofing deck/fence stain to keep them from rotting atleast a year or so. I cut notches out of the seat piece to give it alittle more depth. Hinged up the back, routed the edges so I don't rip my shins up and bolted the cushion on. I also added to little strips of starboard to stop the back from swinging all the way out, which right now it is pretty tight anyway but didn't want it to slip.

Here's the pics.

That looks nice. I was looking at mine today thinking about doing something similar. How did you attach the base?

Nice job...I like the look of the wood. I like the way you made the back rest smaller in width to sit back into the well instead of cantilevering the bench part out over the splash well.

Chomper- Right now it is just held in by gravity and friction. The back is pretty tight in the splashwell. I am headed out this afternoon to see how it works, if it is all over the place I am going to add some slide toggle things like you see on gates.

Mike- The engine tilts up pretty far with the seat back tilted forward, not all the way but definitely enough for trailering. With the seat back up, I can get some tilt but not a ton. If I am beaching the boat I may be screwed, we'll see.

Well test rode her today and all was well. Worked perfect. Only small change is I am going to add two strips of starboard on the bottom to keep it from sliding forward. When I tilt the motor up, instead of it leaning the back it sometimes slides the whole seat. Easy fix. Overall I am extremely happy.
