can someone post pics of their home made engine stand? i searched it, but the posts were old and no photos came up.
also, i am thinking of getting a stand at harbor freight for cheap ... what has to be done to make it fit an outboard motor? also, anyone made their own lifting ring? i was told by my marina that some guys take a piece of pipe and have 1 1/2" x16 threads cut onto it to make their own ring?? i saw some on ebay, but they were $40 - $50. i am sure someone has done this... as always, thanks in advance. Here's a good link:
http://www.wellcraftv20.com/communit...t=engine+stand I had to lower mine; it was too tall. I also had to put a sort of "lift kit" on the bottom boards in order to allow room for the feet of my engine hoist, if that makes sense.

Brad - What I've found after attempting several of these projects is that you can build your own stuff, but in the end it'll cost you more (or close to the same) and you waste SO much time. You can find often find engine stands on craigslist or at local marina/boatyards for less than the harbor freight job. I got several Cast Iron Mercury stands for $100 each. bolt a plywood laminated beam between 2 of them and you can hang 4 outboards. Sure you can make a lifting eye with pipe and some welding . . . but for $35 which is the price of the lifting eye from a dealer (why bother) you only need one. Get'r done or that v20 project will take a decade. Last edited by bigshrimpin; 07-18-2008 at 09:57 PM. |

don't go back to that dealer. The one above looks pretty good. You can get a factory lifting eye and flywheel puller for under $90 (for both pieces . . . lifting eye is $35 and flywheel puller is around $50) they are available to the public contrary to your dealers statements. When I bought the Ficht Diagnostic software I ran into the same issue with some dealers . . . Cost $27+shipping for 1.42b and I made my own cable. The dealer charges $100 just for the printout.
