Default muriatic acid flush

I read through my endless internet searching about a guy that used muriatic to flush his outboard engine's cooling system and it fixed a lot of his cooling problems and really removed a lot of buildup.

But of course they did'nt say how he did it and I can't find the writeup anymore. I think I remeber it being pour in the thermostat holes.

I use Muratic acid in my pool sometimes so I know that it is not extremely bad since it does damage my pool pump or liner.

Is it okay for a outboard engine will just pouring it down the thermostat opening damage anything.

Anyone ever used it?

thanks

Oh man, if you have ever used it you know how bad it is. It's great for removing rust stains, barnicle roots, however it will etch the glass, gel coat, paint, metal, etc. And will melt certain polimers like bunk carpets. Be careful with this and have a garden hose handy to extinguish the reaction. In the motor I wouldn't suggest.

I've been told of washing your sludged car engine with mineral spirits while running the engine. The acid seems like the same thing. THERE IS SOME INFORMATION MISSING. Maybe diluting it to some point would be correct :however there ain't no way I'm trying either of of them :o :o :o

This was discussed on SHIP SHAPE TV before. It works for removing heavy salt deposits, but they clearly stated it will eat your gaskets away so you should only do it to a disassembled engine.

I had a dealer flush my cooling passages out on an old Evinrude and they did a great job. I'd check with a local repair facility and see what they pump through their motors. Rydlyme is designed to remove scaling and build-up inside heat exchangers.

Deshet, you can try Marine Science Technolgies www.mstguardian.com They made a motor fresh water flushing kit that I installed in 2001 and had great luck with on my old Yamaha o/b. They also had a chemical, salt and corrision flushing kit. They used to advertise and be heavly sold on www.boatfix.com. There web sight is still up and has a diclamer about a power strugle with owner and others? I heard they where regrouping. Check them out give them a call. Crusher

If you flush, I would think it should be done with a caustic solution and not an acid. *Acids will remove rust and leave behind bare iron which will just rust up again. *Corrosion that occurs when bases are involved usually involve the formation of magnatite and hematite which will actually protect the iron from further corrosion. *Black oxides are good, red or pitting oxides are bad. *We run the water in high pressure boilers at a pH around 10 or 11 in order to encourage the formation of black oxides on the boiler tubes.

Since this is an outboard with an aluminum block, I would just flush with fresh water and not worry. Aluminum does just fine and forming its own oxide barrier to stop corrosion.
