Well I put in a wash down in and when I was installing the pump I notice that the drain whole in the rear stringers that conect to the transom were clogged. I was removing the leaves when I notice that they did not seem sealed. As I ran my finger in the hole I found that the wood was completley rotted out on both sides. I did some more checking and did not see any signs of cracking or any other problems. What I did notice is that the thickness of the fiberglass rapping these stringers is very thick and has a good bond to the rear of the boat. I did check and found no flexing in the transom. My question is, Do you think this thick fiberglass is enough to keep the integrity of the stringers? If not, does anyone have any ideas of what I can do to help cure the problem? I will say right now it seem to be strong enough and I'm not ready to tear the boat apart. I did have this boat apart in 1999 and I'm not sure how we missed these holes but we did lay additional coats of glass over the stringers as we attached them to the transom.

The glass is where the strength lies. Keep an eye on it, but you'll be fine.

Stilll, Air is right...but, when you can, try to dry out the wood inside those holes...sit a fan in the bilge to circulate air ... once you feel like they're dry (days) take a bottle-brush and shove resin in there to seal...coat best you can ;) ... let cure and hope for the best :D ...

Those holes have been an issue for a lot of us. Does water from your deck drains end up going through these holes? I bypassed them by plumbing the deck drains to drain to the bilge instead. My holes are still rotten, but at least I'm not making them any worse now.
