Default Suzuki 140

I have a 1979 V20 CC fisherman that I am putting a 140 Suzuki on.
Is anyone else on the board running the same engine?

Welcome to the board...yeah we've had a couple of guys hang on a Suzy 140 ...w/ good result...performance won't be ''BLISTERING" (neither is my 150), but it'll do a good job and should be very econimical...propping will be very important ;) (but what boat isn't?)...

Post some pics as ya go along...we likes 'em!! ;D ...

Thank You.

This boat is not very photogenic; many folks around here would have dumped it, rather than repower it. But the boat is dry and rides well in the local conditions.
I am a retired commercial fisherman, so my boats do not have to look perfect, just perform perfectly. This is one of those ugly duckling boats that fills the bill.

This Board has been a big help so far, I congratulate you all for it.

ran into an older gent about 2 months back launching a v20, I think it was a 1979 and he was the original owner. He just re powered w/a suzi 140 so I had a couple of questions for him. I first asked him how he liked his boat and his response was," I go everywhere in this boat". Then I was looking for some comments about the motor....." It's good", was about all I could get out of him.....He was sorta a crusty old man so it was tough to engage him in conversation. I waited around [mostly in an awkward silence] because I wanted to hear him start 'er up.....which he finally did......it sounded smooth as silk and as quiet as a mouse. As he pulled away from the dock I wished him good luck and he just kinda nodded back to me.....I did not even bother telling him about WellcraftV20.com :-/

Well, I'll have to wait to hear my new one, Ernesto has added a few days to the time line. Its on, but not wired in yet. Today was a washout with rain all afternoon.

I have not heard a disparaging word, yet. It should have the same performance as the V6 Johnson (155hp) that came off. And its a hundred pounds lighter. With people, coolers and gear the V20 is not a lightweight. Twenty knots is plenty fast so I think I am doing the right thing. The quiet will be nice too.

Lobster season is just getting rolling here, so it is a bad time to be boatless. I was lucky enough to find my local guy had a couple leftovers for sale cheap, and I bought one.

One of the biggest differences you'll notice is what you DON'T feel...VIBRATION...when I repowered from old 2stroke to new 4stroke, it was like I'd gotten a new hull, too!!... ;) ...

...let's see some PICS ;D ...

I looked up his posts and he sounded happy with it. Here's a couple pics of the install.

I hope to be working on the breakin period later this week.
The prop is 14X18.
