Default Two days worth of fishing...Im whooped!!!

Well Guys, WHAT A WEEKEND!! I took off work on Friday to prove to my buddy Chuck that boats were far from a requirement to catch good trout. We went to the pier at Dauphin Island as I have has good luck there with specks lately.

We got ther eat about 5:30am. We got on the pier and almost immediately started catching trout. They were on the small side so I threw back most of them. They didn’t bite long and they stopped. I then went and caught some nice size LY’s under the pier with my cast net…this was a lot better as the shrimp were so small. I went back on the pier and got a nice red that would have been a great tourney fish. He was just over 25” and weighed 6.14lbs.

Chuck got one a little later that was the about the same size. He was fishing on the up current side when this one was hooked and it pulled him back under the pier and out the other side. I figured for sure we had lost him, but through me coaching him and him pulling and fighting the directions he was instructed…we landed him. :o

His frst ever redfish too!! Woooohooo!!!

W finished off the day their and managed a nice lil mess of fish. The trout bite was never really on fire, but we had a good day anyways.

SATURDAY

I went home Friday and got in bed at 4:30pm only to get up at 1:30am for my boat trip on Saturday. I had a friend that just moved to Atlanta come back down and he wanted to go fishing. I opted to do an inshore/offshore thang and see how it went. We got the boat in the water about 3:30 and began pulling the net. I caught about 8 dozen NICE shrimp and we headed to off for some trout. We got a couple trout, flounder and I got a nice 30” redfish.. My plans to later head South and the fact that I have gotten to where I just hate killing reds over 26 caused me to release her for another fight. 8)

I then decided to head South and hit a close rig for Spanish but got only sharks. After that I went on out about 20 miles to some bridge rubble in hopes for a snapper or two and a few beeliners. I also wanted to fight a king or two, but had no show from the smokers. While on this rubble I caught a beautiful African Pompano. I took a couple pictures and released him. I had a good mess and seen no reason to kill it. He was kinda small to eat anyways.

Note on this picture how long the filaments are on his dorsal. I read somewhere I think that they have to grow into them as they age? If so this one has a lot of growin to do. There were about five on them and they were so long they actually got tangled when I pulled him out of the water. :o

Brandon with a snappa.

Here is our inshore/offshore combo mess slam thingy: ;D
flounder, speckled trout, beeliners, red snapper, pompano and redfished (released earlier)

We were both on fire out there as it was about 3pm now and the wind was GONE. At this point I had been on the water for two days and I was DONE. I was tired, burnt, and exhausted…we headed North.

Good to see Dauphin Isl. comin back fish wise. Man that place got tore up season before last with the hurricane... We fished a tourny down there the week before all hell broke loose, remember goin back and seein the Island itself covered with sand, couldnt even get on the island on the other side of the bridge due to the 10 ft of sand they had to bulldoze out of the road, the old light house GONE and my bud said water/waves were touchin the bottom of the oil/gas rig platforms!!!! (that's 50 ft. waves!!!!)

By lookin at yer pix... sea state looks like it should be up there for this time of year... good to see!

Yup, Dauphin Island will wear ya out on some fish. Congrat's on a successfull trip.

P.s. Let me find them DI pix post hurricane,, you'll flip when you see these.... DI looks like it went thru a Nuke Blast.

Thanks everyone!!

Wellcraft Dave- I know...I have seen DI after each of the hurricanes over the last 15 years or so. It is nothing for the whole Island to be under water durring a major cane...especially the Western End of it.

I just couldnt get over the fact that the waves were at the bottom of them platforms!!!! that's some scary stuff.
