how much freeboard does an average size man have when standing in the stern of a v 20? freeboard being the measurement of the height the side of the boat comes up to on your thigh when standing. lower thigh? mid thigh? crotch? do you feel safe with your kids in the boat?

I feel safe with my boat!! My kids have been in my boat since 12 & 9 never a problem.
I say that my boat comes to the lower thigh to maybe mid? I have not been in it all summer :-[ But mine is a 1975, the freeboard is a little less in the newer stuff to make room for the flotation.

My kids are grown men now so I feel safe with my kids aboard. My nephew is twelve and I feel safe with him aboard. Here are two photos showing the freeboard on a 1990 V20 Tim(old man) is about 5'10" tall. John (my Nephew) is 12 years old and about 5'4".

They have more freeboard than many 12 footers it's one of the features I love about the boat, good support & leverage for snapper fishing.
I have had my kid & her buddies in the boat since she was about 8 (when I bought the boat) and feel very safe about it. My v20 has pads along the gunnel to ease things a bit for a long day of bottom fishing. BTW - freeboard is actually the measurement from the water to the top of the gunnel, although in my boat I'll be it's almost the same on the inside. Doug

I don't have the padding in mine, but have been thinking about it for sometime now?? Guess I no want to pay the cash.
Might try to find some cheap marine material and do it myself?? Just have to say, "O honey I need some more money for the hole in the water" and she will say "I don't want to hear it, get th F--- out here" Then the begging starts LOL ;D

Come on now, the obvious solution is 50 cents of open cell foam duct taped to each knee. It looks dorky, but this is coming from the guy who tapes walmart bags onto his ski pants so as to keep the nortons functioning.

The answer to your question to some extent depends on the year and configuration your looking at. I have a 74 CCand I think the transom is quite low. I'd say it's 18 to 20 inches at best. Never mind the kids, I hold on tight when it rocking and rolling out! Kamikaze
