Default Looking at a V20 CC

Hey guys first time posting. Figure I'd go to the guys who know these boats for some information about what to look for when buying one.

I am looking at a 1977 V20 CC hasn't run in 4 years but ran fine when it was stored. Concerned about the hull condition more than the power. What should I look for? Are there common areas where the transom or floor rots. Also where are the tanks located in a 77. I have read they are not located in the floor. Any resources you could recommend I could look at websites, etc..

I know these boats are great rough water boats, and I love the flare on the bow, reminds me of my Dads grady.

The price is $1500 with a 150 Evinrude. What do you think of this price?
???

That sounds like a good deal if she checks out . The gas tank on the 1977 center console is below deck . They did not move to a below deck in the steplift until 78 . I think that there is a 1977 catalog in the history section. Good luck !

rock the motor back and forth or have someone do it while you watch for flex(movement) in transom. If you have any screws in transom inside or out that have a drip line stain coming out see if screw pulls easily and if you can, remove and see how much water seeps out if any. Jump up and down on floors and see if the floor gives squeals or flexes a lot if so you have soft stringers and a lot of work ahead of you. Has the weight of the center console caused the floor to sag in the center of the boat, does it feel solid when you apply sideways pressure on it. Just some thoughts ;)

Hey guys I really appreciate the insight. I will let you what happens. I didn't see anything about tank location in the history section. I ran through the brochure but couldn't identify where it is located.

Thanks again

Check the gallery, you can see pics of Ken's 71 V20 CC. You can see where the fuel tank used to be in the 71, I'm not sure if it changed by 77.

Regidog , If you look at the picture off the CC in the 1977 catalog you will notice the fuel fill mid way up the starboard side . Prior to 1977 the tank on the CC was in the console and you filled it from the console top .

Check for the strong smell of gas in the bildge. My '86 had a dry rotted gas line and vent hose that needed to be replaced.

Good luck. Even if the outboard is junk, it might be a good deal.
