The brakes on this trailer rusted away years ago. Figured I would lighten the load a bit until I can get some of those real nice new fangled disc brakes.

Well, Phester has his math wrong, by shortening the front end of the lever you did shave some weight.

All I know is that I wont have to put up with that impact everytime I put on brakes from the actuator sliding forward. *And then the jerk (no I'm not refering to myself) when you take off from it sliding back.

I know brakes are nice but for 20' boats I think they are more problems then they are help. With anti lock brakes on trucks now day we can still stop pretty quick even with the load.

Still, I hear what yer sayin' and I think it applies MOST of the time...but I had a moron come off an entrance ramp on the interstate recently...kept comin' RIGHT in front of me...his taillights went outta sight in front of my hood and I's just waitin' on the CRUNCH while STANDIN' on my horn and brake pedal at the same time...w/ brakes on the trailer, it never fishtailed even a little and I'm sure the extra braking power avoided the HIT... made all the probs/maintenance/dollars worthwhile in that one moment cause I'm SURE that JACKASS didn't have a LICK of insurance ... ;) ... I like my brakes...
