Default High Rock Lake Report 4/29/07

8am - Woke up at 8am and straight outside to ready the boat for the lake after church. *

10am *- Back in to get ready for church. *

10:30am - Went to church.

12 noon - Back home, change clothes, any last minute items, not exluding making 4 chicken breast sandwhiches (leftover grilled chicken breast from night before) with lettuce, mayo, salt/pepper, cheeze, pickle, and potato chips. *The sandwiches went into ziplocks and into the cooler for a dockside picnic later on.

1pm - Headed to the boat ramp - 10 minute drive.

Arrive some time after 1pm and launch the boat. *Begin making our way over to our place. *Its probably a 15 minute boat ride just taking it easy. *Have to go under 1 bridge which requires me to fold the bimini down.

We get there and tie the boat off. *I made a chumpot out of a 2 liter coke bottle. *Just put a dime sized hole near the bottom and filled 1/2 with catfood. *Then just tie on a rope, fill with water and tie off to the dock whereever you want. *

Once this was done I proceeded to throw the castnet. *(But not before polishing off a grilled chicken sandwich with lettuce, x-tra mayo, cheeze and a pickle with chips *;D)

1st cast I get a big haul of small threadfin herring - perfect crappie bait! *But the crappie were finicky so I went catfishing. *

My 9 year old's barbie rod went to screamin! *We had an "unstoppable". *I mean she pulled about every bit of line outta that thing. *We got it on video along with some other antics. *The thing is, the drag didn't work so I could not tighten. *This caused me to have to put line on by hand, which you can see in the vid. *Then trying to land the fish I had to pull it over some brush which eventually broke the line. *Bummer! *

So, on to the next fish. *This one I landed on light tackle ;D

Both were flathead cats plus or minus 10 lbs. *I would have weighed the 2nd one but my 9 year old was asleep in the cuddy and the scale was down below deck.

Here's some more pix:
A better pic of the 2nd 10 lber!

Funny thing here too - my little "Rat" dawg fell in the water twice - once getting off the boat and once becuase she saw a reflection on the trees from the sun shining on the water! *Scared her into the water backwards barking! *Too funny! *;D

More Rat Dawg pix:

Heres our little piece of High Rock heaven:
1972 singlewide LOL *8)

Last but not least, here is my 1972 V20 leaving my driveway last week *:'(

It actually felt great Reel! * I mean great that *someone will now actually use it....but of course part of me felt sad to think that this was my chance - if I was ever gonna do it - to take on a project. *I mean enclose the transom like Still Running did and hang a bracket *w/ 225hp Skools Out Johnnyrude Special 8) *Hardtop, full enclosure, radar, plasma screen GPS (32 inch), Huge fishbox in transom, 300 gallons of fuel below deck, heat and a/c, generator, icemaker, internet access, sattelite phone, 9ft Boston Whaler dingy w/ my 9.9 johnson, epirb, fridge, stove, microwave, and one HUGE STAINLESS NORTON SNAGGER with 1000ft of rode *;D

So, yeah, I'd say part of me regrets letting her go *;D

On the 2 liter coke bottle - I've cat fished many times off my dock and rarely do we ever get strikes unless we chum with corn. Now on the first day I try the catfood I get 2 lunkers without much effort. I'd say there's somethin to it! You should have seen the clouds and chunks of catfood particles coming outta that thing! You only fill it half full - or a lil less of catfood cause the water swells it up.... I hear it works better if you do it on a regular basis in the same spot. The fish get used to "feedin time" ;)

Stunningly good report and pics! While Mr. Hammer is all about the pics, I'm all about the food. Great description of the sandwiches!!! What did you do with the catfish?

LOL THANKS TUNA!

I like a good picnic by the water ;D

Sorry, no catfish sandwiches :'( we dropped em back in the water to fight again. I'm not big on eating catfish. Its ok, but thats the problem, its just ok. I'd rather eat something from the salt!
