Well here is the little pirogue Im building for those that havent seen it on Facebook. As stated before I just wanted something to fool around in some ponds and wanted something light. The main goal here was something durable with as little weight as possible. This isnt a show piece at all so it wont get a whole lot of fairing, sanding and finish work.
Started out with a few sheets of cheap luan. Its getting glassed and completely sealed so the wood is just a basis for forming what I need. ![]() Started with 11" sides and scarfed them together by routing out 3" on each section: ![]() ![]() Let cure overnight. All set with Gorilla glue, its good stuff: ![]() Bow stems cut, several inches too long and a 19 degree angle: ![]() Ends cut, I went roungly 12.5' overall length: ![]() Bow stems installed: From this point: ![]() To this point: ![]() I failed to take more pics of the process. All that was really done is getting measurements and angle and setting up the three ribs to dry overnight. Once dried I installed them with glue and clamped in place with a few brads and screws. Flipped it and skinned the bottom: ![]() ![]() After some cleanup its starting to take shape:

Next was to skim it in thin glass for "waterproofedness" as well as durability.
![]() ![]() ![]() Then I flipped it back over to work on the rub rails and typing it all together. Prior to this is was feeling pretty stout (and still extremely light) but this REALLY stiffened things up. ![]() I had one small section of glass give from the rub rail pressure and clamping but Ill grind it out and fix it. I heard it cracking but kept pulling because I wanted straight. ![]() As of yesterday, one side done the other setting: ![]() Hopefully Ill get a little more time this week. More to come.

Havent been able to fool with it yet this week, hopefully today I can fool with it some. I got the inside seams on one side and the front/back glasses, still have part of one side to do.
I just spoke with my marine paint guy Ive used for many years. Going with an international Epoxy primer Ive used before. He said it should seal it inside and out water tight.

just got a chance yesterday to fool with it. I havent been out there since Sunday when I let the rub rails sit up. Got the other ribs trimmed down and installed the bracing and plywood for the small bow cap. The rear one will only be 8" or so long, even smaller. Also got the paint...ouch. The inside corner on the glassing is done as well.
![]() ![]() Got it from Stauter boat works here, I was going with some different primer but he had some good stuff there so I went ahead with it.

I also couldn't stand it and prepped a small area for primer yesterday. This is some good stuff for sure. Coats great, dries fast.
![]() As you can see from the pic theres about 150# of paint buckets in there holding some wood to dry. She didnt flex a bit.
