My engine came with no prop at all. It's a 20". Is there a recommended prop for it? Where's the best place to purchase from? I'm thinking aluminum, for now.

I don't think you'll like that 19 pitch with a 175HP. I believe a 16-17 pitch in a 14 1/2" diameter is where you want to start at. I have a 15 out in my shed that is fairly fresh that might work for you(I'm afraid it might be a hair to small for you though). I'm pretty sure that your 175 has a 1.86:1 lower unit which with a 19 pitch prop would put you around mid 50's at the reccomended WOT RPM range. I don't think a 175 will come close to that as that is where a 225 push's one at. A 175 should be able to hit 40 or mid 40's which at 5500 RPM's will be right around a 16-17 pitch prop.

I'll take your advice on that, FERM. I just found an aluminum 14.5x17 for just over $100. Thanks.
Does it make sense to have several props to interchange? For example, if once in a while you were gonna pull wakeboards and intertubes all day? Then would the higher pitch make sense? Last edited by awthacker; 02-21-2011 at 10:42 PM. |
