To a point, Marine Tex would be the way to go in order to finish from clear looking fiberglass even if you are going to put bottom paint on the boat.
To a point being small or short area's easily wiped with a squeege and sanded or water sanded and buffed for finish. Yes gelcoat would be better than paint but Marine Tex is a good inbetween solution. Better pictures of the damage might be the deciding factor.

Being there is that much damage, you will spend a fortune on Marine Tex.
Do like FERM said in the other thread. http://www.wellcraftv20.com/communit...t=10298&page=5

I will fix the damage but besides that which type of tools do i need to have, like sand type and tools
Do you know of any special liquid to remove the bottom paint without needing to sand it, cause the gelcoat under the paint looks good and shiny and also if there is anything to make the gelcoat shine like new again without the need to paint, please let me know Marine tex cost alot, i think i will use Gelcoat powder mixed with resin Last edited by hardboiled; 09-22-2008 at 02:25 PM. |

When I did mine I sanded and used resin and cloth to add to the bottom, this added back the material that was lost and sealed the bottom.
Sanded nice and since my boat was painted I just repainted. I agree with above, you must seal it before you add gelcoat or anything else. Good Luck

Did mine the same way as you MJ, resin and cloth. Been about 4 yrs now no problems. Made it smooth then added bottom paint. Can't tell at all.

I bought my paint at West Marine. They can offer you you the trailer hull bottom paint.
I do know that the price of paint did go up. Be prepaired to pay about $150.00. Your V looks likes mine, before I changed it over. She's a good V you have there.
