Default 90' something Evinrude 150hp Fast Strike

Does anyone have any comments on a 90's model Evinrude 150hp Fast Strike. I know a guy who has a 71 V-20 cuddy for sale but I am only interested in the motor and want to know a little about they performance history. The whole motor has less then 200 hours but the power head was replaced while under warrenty and it has about 100 hours on it.

It ran good a couple of years ago when it was put up, it was fogged and hopefully it is still in good condition. The guy will run it to make sure it will run. He is the type that doesn't want to sell it to me if it aint right.

Any guess on the weight of it, or any other usefull information is welcome.

It's most likely a 60 degree looper. Awesome engine for reliability(many will say the most reliable JOHNNY-RUDE ever), but it was known for being a thirsty one as well. Weight on it should be around 400 lbs depending on shaft length.

Thanks for the input Ferm.. I saw a post else where in here about loopers but did not read cause it did not apply to my current motor, guess I'll go back and read it.

Turbo, it should be a good match. I think the Fast Strike was a bassboat motor and has a 20" shaft, which is fine, its what you have right? If the deal is right and she's running good, I think you'll like it. As for fuel, you;ll burn less than you are now if you can keep yer foot out of it. Keep her under 4200 R's and you'll be golden. To top it all off, I might know somebody intrested in the boat....

The general consensus on THT in regards to the 150 LOOPERS is they burn on average of 12-14 GPH @ cruise. My 140 LOOPER V-4 burns roughly 8 @ cruise.

Air I have to wait till next week end for him to start it up to see how it runs. Would like the better MPG and I do have a 20" transom. I'll let you know bout the boat as the details unfold, one thing he did say is that the transom is weak. :(

He's looking to sell the whole rig, boat, motor and trailer as a package. He thinks the boat is a 72. As we look closer I'll get the hull number and let you know.

A 60 degree V6 looper will burn less fuel than a 90 degree V4 in most cases in you keep in under about 4300 rpm

I'm not much for a lot of speed on the water but should I need to out run a strom it would be nice to have the extra ponies.

So from what I have been hearing here is that a 150 Fast strike is a reliable motor and a good investment. ???
