Default Sea Sickness

Randleman mentioned his friends getting sea sick recently on a thread in the fishing section. I've had that problem as well where my buddies will be on their knees chumming rather than fishing. After waiting out the winter, all of the work of getting the boat ready, gas prices... time on the water is precious and I hate to see anyone's day ruined.

The solution for my group has been an over the counter medication called meclizine. It's cheap, lasts all day, won't make you drowsy and won't make your mouth feel like the Gobi desert. You can find it in any pharmacy sold as the NON-DROWSY version of Dramamine, Bonine and Antivert. It might be sold under other brand names too, you'd have to check the active ingredients.

When sold as the non-drowsy Dramamine it's ~ $5.00 fo 20 pills. In many pharmacy's you can walk to the counter and ask the pharmacist for a supply. It's cheaper this way at ~ $20.00 for a bottle of 100 pills.

It is sold as 25 milligram pills. The usual dose is one or two pills 1 hour before you figure you'll be on the water. If I have a guy who is VERY prone to sea sickness I'll have him take one the night before fishing and one and hour before.
