Default Primer Day

The drizzle finally let up today. My brother Eric lives next door and came over to help me spray on the primer. I am just painting from the gunnels up at this point and everything in the cockpit. The first two pics were taken before the paint was applied. The last is of the TunaBrothers having fun.

Nice work Tuna. I am curious - what are you using for primer and paint ? And what are your respirator protection ? I ask cause, I need to paint a boat this spring .... and would like to do it myself ... but am concerned about adequate respirtory protection. I have my boat primed with Awlgrip's primer.

Brian, I don't know what brand the respirator is but it was the best model they had for sale at ACE hardware ($40-50). I can hardly smell the vapor at all.

Alot of guys here swear by Awlgrip paint. I live in a fairly rural area with limited options for marine paint. Awlgrip isn't available. I'm using Petit Easypoxy undercoater and paint.

Reel, the brother next door knows he's gonna get a boat ride. He's looking for free baby sitting.

Lookin good Tuna.

however, what about overspray on that botom? :o

I know it doesnt seem like it would be an issue, but epoxy and urethane based paints are very sticky and I would mask it just to be sure. Get some of that masking film from lowes that has the tape and drop cloth in one. Its pretty cool stuff. Just run it along your rub rail, unfold it down over the side and put a piece every few feet to hold it there. 8)

Nice work! ;)
