Default Opinion on '94 Johnson Ocean Runner 175

Any one have any experience with this motor? It supposedly has around 300 hours and is priced at $2750

Thanks,

Rey

Price seems high, but argueably one of the best engines that OMC EVER built. The 150/175 loopers from 91+ have proven themselves time and time again to just run, but they do like there gas burning about the same as most 200's.

I had a 1994 150 on my V and it was a great motor. I think over 12 years I put maybe $800 into the motor and alot of that was for a carb job. The motor was purchased new in 1996 and still ran like new when I sold it a few months back.

UPDATE: Nevermind. For some reason I always thought my transom was 25" but I was just told that it's 20". The Johnson OceanRunner is a 25". Wow, do I feel stupid :)

Man, still doing research.... Anyone know what the compression should be on this
'94 Johnson 175 OceanRunner? What else should I look for when checking out the motor? The guy that bought my BlackMax hooked a volt meter before and after starting to see what charging is going on. Also, did the big screwdriver to engine to ear to listen for knocking. Checked the oil in the gear case. Checked spark plugs. What else is there?

Thanks,

Rey

The big screwdriver to the engine block while running was listening to the main crankshaft bearings...amazing how sound travels through a screwdriver, but you can hear smooth vs rough quite distinctly...you gotta know where the bearings are and put the tip on the block in the right places...
