I have several spots where I need to repair the gelcoat in the topside of the deck and floor. How do you mimic the non skid surface when laying the gelcoat or do you guys simply forget about it? I like things a certain way, and thats the right way, so if I can I will re-create the deck surface. I saw there is a material available that you lay into your final gelcoat. Does anyone have any experience with this?http://www.minicraft.com/Retail/Gibco/SRInst01.htm

I haven't done it myself but I've heard of people using nice fine playground sand, mixing it right into the paint, and the other one is a sand paint mix, comes in those little milk container size cartons. That material I've used in drywall repairs on ceilings

I have never tryed to copy the diamond pattern in the original floor.
But IMO with the patch's you need to do, I think what you should do is, repair floor were needed, sand, and repaint the hole floor. Not only will this make the hole floor match in color, but then you can add what ever you want for media to the paint for a non slip deck. They have sand, plastic beads and all kinds of things.

buy rubber mold maker for modeling and mix it up pour it on the current floor in an area to get a mold then once it cures peel it up and the rubber should have the floors non-skid pattern then just patch your floor then while the last coat is still wet lay the rubber mold on the wet area and press it in good that will make the exact same floor pattern you have the rubber mold should not stick to the wet resin just let the resin set up. the mold rubber is used in model railroading alot making rock molds and stuff just look in hobby shops.

I have to agree Maco I think I might be out of my league trying to match the factory molded non skid. I should simply sand out the non skid and regelcoat, than apply a canned non-skid, but for the gunnels should I sand out the non skid, and simply regelcoat sand to smooth than paint. Seems like alot of work. What have others done who had to replace the plywood under the factory non-skid. I just don't want the boat to look like a frankenstein with all these patches I need to do.

I sanded mine, and not alot!! The new paint and granuals will fill in the old pataren and look fine!! Most of the new paint out there goes on in a couple of coats and if pretty thick.
There will be no problem with it to look all the same!! Wish I had closer pic!! My boat is coming home easter, I can gert some then. Old ![]() New ![]()

It would boil down to how much surface area you have to repair...small areas, I'd try the moulded route, but you say "several areas", so sounds like you may as well redo whole floor...
