Default Two bildge pumps

You guys that have a second bildge pump, how did you plumb it. Do you have another thru hull you installed to do it or did you plumb into the existing thru hull some how. Been thinking about upgrading Old School to a two pump system and not sure how to do it?

Second thru hull is the proper way to do it. If you try to push it out of one discharge you won't gain anything. Just think of two pumps trying to push water out of one hole...

My V20 is a '91 and already had a bilge pump for the fish box. They discharge thru seperate hoses. I have two thru hull fittings at the starboard rear.

I agree that two holes is the way to go. Think about it for a minute....

Why would you need a second bilge pump anyways? In case of an emergency or the first one failing right? Yes. Well what happens when the failure on the first is a busted or cracked hose or fitting? You are screwed and could still sink a boat with two pumps. My opinion is that everything should be separate on it to eliminate some variables. After all we all know that whatever worse case scenario that can happen, WILL happen on a board. Wire it separate, plumb it separate, EVERYTHING. ;)

Thats what I was thinking to, I''ve never made a thru hull in a fiberglass boat so it will be a learning experience.

just drill ya a hole and put a thru hull in lol. When you think 1 pump is enough add another. Set the pumps at same level in the bilge but set your float switch's at 2 different levels. set one on floor of bilge and set other on a 1/2" piece of plywood so that the second pump is a back up in the case your primary one can't keep up. that way it won't kill your battery when docked with 2 pumps running together.

While on this subject what size pumps are you all running? *:-/ I'm running 2 Rule 1750 Pumps with the layout as above listed. I've got 3 Rule 2200 pumps in the Wellcraft 248 hope they work, 2 in the back and 1 up front for the boat. It's a deck drain so i should be ok.
