Default driveshaft o-ring?

does anyone know if an o-ring belongs on the top of the shaft. It looks like a groove the ring will fit in.its right under the splines,my johnson manual dosent show it,or the parts manual.but the omc waterpump kit shows it & includes one that fits.oh yeh, there wasent one on there when i took it apart.

Yes, it should have one. Make sure and lube it REALLY good before installing it or else it will just roll down the shaft.
