I like to vertical jig small jigs over structure but I'm not really talking about the new type of butterfly jigging that everyone is doing. Sounds like fun though. I really like the thought of being about being able to catch fish without having to bait a hook on every drop.

I was in Julians Bait Shop in the Highlands a couple of weeks ago and looking at the new jig set up and talking to my buddy about them. An older gent standing there got a kick outout of them and the prices, he said that the old timers been doing that type of fishing for years using diamond jigs of different sizes and with different tails tied on them around reefs, wrecks and drop offs. Said it works so well he quit using bait fo that fishing many years ago.
My buddy and I just looked at each other when he left realizing we both must have 30 or more diffrent size diamonds apiece in our tackle boxes!!

i bought a jigging rod rated for 80-200 lb braid last weekend and i just ordered my 80 power pro last night.im spooling up my 330GTi for now hopefully i can updrage reels later on down the road. so now i just need to get some freestyle jigs.

yep i have used the ole diamond jig many a times before around the rigs, they say that the new style out fishes the standard jigs i guess we will have to see.

Vertical jigging is probably half the fishing I do over the last 10 years. Flooundering makes up the bulk of the rest. Catching tuna on the jig is a hoot.
