Default Full transom questions?

OK guys there is at this point a mild possibility that I might be getting that brackett. I am just thinking of possibilities for enclosing my transon. Has anyone ever done it or have any pics of it? I know for sure I am putting a large livewell in the center of it if I do it, but I am still playing around with ideas here so tell me about experiences/ideas.

Mine is a 79 so it looks like this one in the back:

If it was I, I would cut out the splash well,

then from the inside of the boat I would attach Plywood to the transom. From the out side I would just glass layers till I built out to match the rest of the hull. Do tghe same on the inside. Gel coat and done there.

two layers of 3/4 ply glassed toghter will work great.

Bolt the bracket below the the fixed portion of the transom.

Then add your bait tank, then what ever you need to do on the inside, put a trim on the glass to cover the edge, and use Starboard bolted to glass to the floor or what ever you need to finish the job.

Thats what I would do any way. Just remember Starboard can't be glued toghter with out going thur a ton of crap. so it needs to be bolted and the you can caluk the seems to look good!!

Hey MJ would the majority of the brackett bolt to the section under thenotch or some above it too? Also how do you decide where to mount it? Can it be mounted for either 20 or 25inch outbards...by just changing location or is there a different brackett required?

it doesn't matter, the bracket can be mounted were ever you need to be.

I new I had a 25" motor so I mesured up from the bottom V of the boat to 25" up. Then I think the bracket has a 2 or 2 1/2 lift on it and subtracted it so that from were the motor sits to the V would be 25"

Now there is some kind of forumula that they say for every 12" back you go you rasie the bracket 1" ?? So on a 29" set back like what I have I could have come up 2 1/2" But I did not, I thought it was to far up the transom.

Now you can mout the holes in the new piece as long as you make it good and strong!!

Or you can do like me. When you install the bracket they tell you to use 3 X 3 washers on each bolt. I did not like that!
Seeing that I had a old boat I wanted it to be as strong as I could!

So I had a buddy make me a bracket on the inside of the boat the same shape and bolt pattern as the bracket. This way weight is on the hole transom and not just in one area.

here it is and it woks just great!! It is 3" X 1/2" flat stock

Thanks MJ I seen that "washer" of yours on another thread and I liked it. It help to distribute the weight more evenly, I think I will do the same.

Hey Stinky I think your right about the bolts but if you enclose the transom why not build the back up though, then you could close off the cap around and have alot of room for storage?

Stinky, I hear ya loud and clear about the full transom and all benefits, but I gotta tell ya a 3/4" Starboard drop-in wash-blocker just ahead of the motor will stop as much water as re-building your entire transom...for a FRACTION of the cost and down-time...don't mean to de-rail your train of thought...just thinkin' out loud... ;)...

Yeah I hear ya RA, but I am after all the storage/livewell space more than the water blockage.....that is the ONLY reason I will go brackett...the performance benefit are just an added benefit.
