Default BS, or anyone, Power tilt problem

Ok who knows about power tilt and trims??

1988 Yamaha 175 hp, Model 175ETXG Serial 751765

I had the dam left pistion cab come lose again!! low on oil, and tryed to get it up, but no go, So I lifted it to assist with the eletric.

After getting it home I retighten the cap and added fluid, keep going up and down till the fluid stays full (per book for bleeding)

Now it goes up and down but when up falls back down slowly.
I have drained all oil cause it looked like it might have had water in it??
But after draining all oil and refilling I still have the same problem, and when I unscrew the fill screw it lets a lot of air out, and the oil looks foamed with air in it.

So I must have some kind of internal leak?? But what and wear to look??
I am running real tight on cash and would like to try to hit the nail on the head, to save rebuilding the whole thing!!

Thanks all!!

Internal leak. *There is a bad valve or seal in the pump that is allowing fluid to leak back into the reservoir. *Nothing too horrible, but it will require a rebuild of the pump. *Feeling handy?

For us Volvo guys, there is a valve housing that would have to be replaced. *Throw on some new o-rings and you should be good as new. *The pump itself rarely wears out.

I don't know where to find microfilms for the Yamahas, so I can't tell you exactly what you need to do.

I can do it!!
And I have some friends to help, it don't scare me!! ;)

The hardest part will be removing the whole assembly from the motor,

But I did it 2 years ago to repaint the trim motor cause it was all rusted.

So it will be easy in the way as I have done it before, and when I reassambled it I used antisizen all the bolts.

I just want to make sure that the problem is the pump, or motor, ect ect.. *Before I go off half cocked!

Mj i know on the V4 and V6 John/Rude ones they have a different part number but they are the same only difference is the bushing in the tilt arm where the pin from the motor is different size. In those you just have to put V6 bushings in a V4 unit to work in a V6 or do the opposite to fit a V4.
