Default It's time to re-power.

The hull is a 1995 V-21. I currently have a 150 Johnson. It's a strong engine but I need more range.

I can get a really good deal on a new 140hp Suzuki, but I don't think that's enough power.

I would really like a Yamaha F150, but don't want to put that much money into it.

I'm considering a Yamaha 150 or 200 HPDI. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Will

I dont know about the V21 under the floor. In an older boat I think it would be easy enough to add fuel tanks. The new direct injected motors are supposed to be as close as a half mile to the gallon compared to the four strokes. I would try factory reconditioned, with waranty for the money.

You can get some savings by trying to find a leftover 2004 Yamaha F150. I've seen some around for $9999.

I've been looking at a leftover 2004 2-stroke carbed Yamaha for $7200.

How much range are you lookin for? You have a 60 gallon tank right?

Yes. 60 Gallons. I'm looking at 100-140 miles round trip.

Mac just hit the nail on the head!!!...from all I've read and heard THAT would be the perfect combination of power and fuel economy you're lookin' for to go on your boat...it aint gonna be cheap, but the truth is if range is your main objective you're gonna pay for it...I think FI 4-stroke is gonna deliver BEST fuel economy...if you're gonna stay w/2-stroke, look hard at E-Tech...IMHO... ;) :)...

Will...I got a buddy w/boat at Tollers Cove...where you runnin' your V20 that kinda range?...off?...or a girlfriend at Hilton Head?... ;D...

It's going to be E-tec or hpdi for me when the time comes . The 175 E-tec weighs no more than my current 1994 150 yamaha . I most likely will go with the E-tec unless I can save big money with the hpdi by being able to use my current guages , control box, ect .

Willmorg - Search for fugazi - when repowered with a 140 suzuki/johnson and he was somewhat disappointed with the top end speed and wimpy acceleration.

I'm trying stay under $10k also.

The wife wouldn't be to happy about the girlfriend, but maybe with the extra speed I could get away with it. ;)

Mostly offshore from Remley's Point to 100+ feet of water.
